Delft A - Achterom

I was born in 1959 in a street called "Achterom". Achterom means "Back entrance". It is possible that the name "Achterom" was written towards the end of the 17th Century. An explanation would be that the shape of the canal. It has the form that the canal is behind something. It's the only canal in Delft that has two turns in it.

  1. I like looking at how the neighbourhood that I grew up looked like in photos. I feel the same way looking at the photo in your blog post. I love it and the story behind the street that you grew up on.

    1. It hasn't changed much in nearly 60 years, that's the advantage of houses near a canal, they are not allowed to be changed from the outside, at least most of them. It's a nice beginning of the A-Z challenge, the house where you were born...

    1. Yes, the picture has our house on it, but it was the house where I and my sister were born. When I was 1,5 years old we moved to Wieringerwerf.
