Dutch election results

Like this newspaper says: the liberals who were in Government (VVD) ended up losing seats in parliament but still remained with 33 seats in our Second Chamber by fat the biggest political party. Polls showed for a long time the Dutch populist party PVV a monster victory and would become by far the biggest party, but they got stuck with 20 seats and not the predicted 39 or even more.

So that is a relief. People were very disappointed in the Labour party that was in government with the Liberals for the last 4 years and they got from 28 seats in Parliament to 9. Many people, present company included, were very disappointed in Labour these last years. With 77% people 10,3 million people) that actually came and vote the young voters also participated and that was pure profit for democracy itself.

    1. Yes, I was very relieved that Mr. Wilders did not as good as the polls said for a long, long time that he would. The world is not a safer place with people that are basically undemocratic.

      Thank you,

  2. Well done - much better than here. No matter was 45 does, his supporters seem to wave it away. I don't get it.

    1. It's not so hard to understand, people see in mr. Trump the man that finally does what he promised in the campaign he would. And they voted for him because they see a chance in him to really change the political system.
Until they wake up and find out that the core values of democracy (like the free press) is violated.
      Power corrupts.

  3. Labour in our country is not what it was either. Our liberals have been weakened and the Tories are riding the Brexit waves, including the ones who voted remain :(
Glad in the end reactionary popularism was kept at bay. As for US, well a sizable chunk of the population voted for him, and until the ripples of his policies are felt by all, his followers will continue to go to his rallies.
As for the threats during the Brexit campaign about Turkey joining the EU, they were lies too.

    1. Yes politics includes a lot of "alternative truths", DelFonte! Remember all that money that would go to the NHS?
