To all restaurant owners

I read this post on Facebook. It's a simple but effective way to protect women who are not sure how their date will end, at least those who expect it to be nasty. Just order an Angel Shot. Smile. Love the name of that drink. Now if more restaurants would take care of their female vulnerable customers the world would be just a bit more safe.

Everbody is focussing now on Terrorist attack dangers. An American woman has a 25 to 26 percent chance of being raped in her lifetime (1 in 4). (Greenberg, Bruess and Haffner, 573; Horowitz, 413; Lips, 233). Compared to the likelihood of you drowning in a bathtub (1 in 800,000), losing your life in a car crash (1 in 19,000), dying in a building fire (1 in 99,000), or being struck by lightning (1 in 5,500,000). We should honestly be more concerned about heart disease, strokes, or cancer, before we should worry about any terrorist threat. It should also be noted that terrorist incidents have only increased in prevalence since the inception of the war on terror back in 2001. Clearly, the ongoing warfare is only contributing to more of the same problem and that warfare isn't justified when we should more rightly be afraid of things like tornadoes, earthquakes, floods, dog bites, excessive heat, and bicycle accidents.

So the chance of 1 in 4 is good enough to copy this sign and put in your restroom.

  1. I've seen that sign floating around Facebook and would love if every restaurant and bar posted it prominently in the ladies room. Years ago, I taught personal safety to women and one thing I used to tell them was don't be afraid to make a scene if you feel unsafe...draw a crowd...which is the last thing an attacker wants. Thanks for sharing.

    1. Yes, this one is a classic one on social media, but not less powerful. It reminds me that we can help each other more often than we think. If we just be creative and be willing to do something out of the box...

    1. It should. The rape numbers are appalling. And we should help those who need our help in creative ways. Not all this way, but there are many ways you can help each other.

    1. It's the thinking out of the box, that blows my mind. So simple. So effective.

  4. Only hope that women and bartenders everywhere are familiar with this drink - thanks for getting out the word.
